In NYC when I was coming up in the camera department, many of my contemporaries were women. A few were my friends as we would get each other on jobs as a second or loader. When I eventually moved up to DP, I had them on as my focus pullers. Eventually all three of my closest went on to be very accomplished DP’s and one made a huge hit with Wonder women the movie, and Cute Monster Tooth Dentist Halloween Outfit Gift T-Shirt. Luckily, the male dominated aspect of the camera department was tapering off in the late 80’s when I started in Film. I didn’t give it a lot of thought, as it was all about talent and hard work as far as I was concerned. I live in New Zealand now, and have heard a lot about life in South Africa, and have the deepest respect for your accomplishments. Well done you!
