Bruce, I talked to a man today that ran away at 16 and hitch hiked across country and into Canada back in the 60s or 70s, I didn’t ask what year. He left home because his father accused him of doing heroin. I was mortified that a child could just take off like this and not tell his parents. I can’t imagine my children doing it either or what Grinch hand holding a glass of wine Christmas T shirt. My heart sank. Don’t you know though, he ended up a heroin addict and goes to my clinic for methadone. You have to wonder what constraints drove him away and lead him down the path he took. We are much gentler with our children than some so it makes sense that we would feel such dread.
