So to Christmas…first the tree at least 3 weeks out cause it makes the house smell soooooo good. Most my friends grumble about trees…too messy…too much bother…but when they come to my house they smile. Of course I have to talk at least one into coming with me and by the time we’re home they are dying to decorate. I decorate at night to get the 7 strings of lights just right then to the decorations which I’ve had for ages and remember each one…where I was when I got it or who gave it to me but the best the ones from my childhood. Tinsel…most people think it’s too glitzy and very messy, but that’s the point isn’t it? So to the presents…I wrap each one differently according to their favorite colors, and as usual I try to use real ribbons…more vintage and yummy. This year I bought everyone I know Chinese Sky Lanterns…I think the coolest things on the planet! So to the food…I cook a full turkey dinner…brined and stuffed, mashed potatoes with plenty of butter and Being A Gigi Makes My Life Complete T shirt, peas with sauteed mushrooms and pearl onions and of course lots ’o’ butter…it’s Christmas so let’s pig out, besides, it’s all about the leftovers! Actually I do this every Thanksgiving if I’m by myself or a boat load of people show up. It’s a tradition I’ve done for years so I usually get a boat load of people! Christmas dinner my best friend and I put our heads together and come up with some extravaganza because she doesn’t like turkey…this year we had roast ham with all the trimmings and those silly English crackers (because she’s British) that you pull, they pop and have prizes inside including the paper crowns which we all wore!

Russian River Brewing Company located on 4th street is a favorite to everyone I know. I don’t even drink but it’s still a great place for date nights, girls nights out, parties, you name it. They serve American, Bar, Pizza, Pub, & are Vegetarian Friendly. This is a popular restaurant and brewery so be prepared to have to wait. (Don’t worry, it’s worth it). Most people come here for the beer, I actually enjoy the pizza and wings and a great time with friends. Sazon, located on Sebastopol Rd is one of the best seafood restaurants you can find. I usually order the Ensalada Bistec. Santa Rosa Seafood Raw Bar & Grill, located on Santa Rosa Ave isn’t the fanciest restaurant but the food makes up for what the decor and Being A Gigi Makes My Life Complete T shirt location are lacking. I enjoy the grilled Tri Tip salad and Red Pumpkin Curry. Haku Sushi located on 7th street gives you some great sushi and lots of choices. We haven’t had any sushi we didn’t like and always get the miso soup. Another great choice for sushi is the Paradise Sushi & Grill located on 4th St. My husband and I share the Seared Tuna Sashimi.

My Dad was posted to a small Air Force unit at a place called Barnala in Punjab in the late seventies. I have grown up with Sikhs all my life. While there may be numerous Santa Banta jokes, Indians have always been proud of their Sikhs. These martial people ensure that at least one child in their family joins the Armed Forces. For centuries they were ostracised and faced religious persecution. Wearing a turban was for them, a matter of pride and honour and they would rather have their heads cut off than be forced to take it off as an insult. The Punjab has been a battle ground for thousands of years because that was the easiest way to enter India for the many invaders India has seen. During numerous wars, Punjab’s farmers have seen armies roll by and seen fighter aircraft engaged in dog fights in the sky. For them war was a regular occurrence, something to get used to. This is a story from the late seventies, as narrated to me by my father who was himself an Air Force officer. His unit at Barnala, (small town in northern India in Punjab) had received news about an air crash. An Air Force aircraft had been hit by lightening and disintegrated mid air. The next day my Dad was put in charge of a Being A Gigi Makes My Life Complete T shirt party to go and bring back the dead and salvage what they could from the aircraft to ascertain cause of the crash.
